The tour

This tour begins even before boarding the tuk-tuk, in Via dei Banchi Vecchi 108, a road that has been at the center of Roman food and wine culture for decades. It starts with a tasting session of wines, cold cuts and cheeses typical of the territory, and then start to discover the city. The route touches the Trevi Fountain, the largest and most famous fountain in Rome, Piazza Venezia, the geometric center of Rome located at the foot of the Capitoline Hill and dominated by the Altare della Patria (Victorian), the Colosseum, the largest amphitheater in the Roman world and symbol of the city, the Circus Maximus, the largest building for the spectacle of antiquity and one of the largest stadiums ever built, and the Garden of the Oranges Then the Mouth of Truth, the marble mask that inspires legends and tourist photographs in equal measure from the 7th century, the Teatro Marcello and the sacred area of Largo Argentina, where Caesar was murdered. Continue with the Pantheon, an extraordinary masterpiece of Roman architecture, and then arrive at the famous and iconic staircase of Trinità dei Monti that leads to the wonderful Spanish Steps. You then arrive at the Pincio, the most iconic lookout in Rome, from which you can admire the whole city. The tour ends at Piazza del Popolo, one of the great ceremonial doors of Rome. A glass of good wine before visiting the city, not a bad way to spend a day in Rome.

    The geographical heart of Rome, dominated by the Vittoriano — built in 1885 to celebrate Italian Unification, and still dividing Romans and impressing everyone else.

    Colosseo
    Built in 72 AD and completed in just eight years, it held up to 80,000 spectators — the largest amphitheatre ever built, and still standing.

    Circo Massimo
    The ancient Roman chariot-racing stadium, built to hold 300,000 spectators. Now a long open field at the foot of the Aventine — but the scale of it still reads.

    Giardino degli Aranci
    A quiet hilltop garden on the Aventine, with one of the best-framed views in Rome — St. Peter's dome visible through the orange trees. One of those spots locals tend to keep to themselves.

    Bocca della Verità
    A marble mask from the 1st century AD, originally a drain cover, now one of Rome's most visited curiosities — made globally famous by Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck in Roman Holiday. Legend has it that it bites the hand of anyone who tells a lie.

    Teatro Marcello
    The Teatro Marcello is a majestic monument of ancient Rome, diameter 130 meters and height of 32 meters, could accommodate up to 15000 spectators. Wanted by Julius Caesar and dedicated by Augustus to his nephew and son-in-law Marco Claudio Marcello in 11 BC, it is the only example of stone theater that has come down to us.

    Largo Argentina
    A sunken archaeological site in the middle of the city, with four Republican-era temples dating to the 4th century BC. Also the site of Caesar's assassination in 44 BC — and home to Rome's most famous cat colony.

    Pantheon
    The Pantheon, built in 27 A.D., is a temple dedicated to all deities. It is famous for its immense unarmed dome in the center of which opens the only source of natural light, the oculus, 9 meters in diameter. The internal height of the entire building is exactly equivalent to its diameter (43.3 meters).

    Trinità dei Monti scalinata-Spagna
    The Staircase of Trinità dei Monti is a masterpiece of the eighteenth century and connects the Spanish Steps to the overlying church of the same name. It is composed of 135 steps in travertine and for its dynamic and curved trend recalls the effect of a water cascade. At the base is the famous Fontana della Barcaccia, the work of Pietro and Gian Lorenzo Bernini.

    Pincio
    The hill of the Pincio is famous for its spectacular panoramic terrace; it offers an unparalleled view of the entire city. It represents the first real public garden in Rome, with its tree-lined avenues decorated with over 200 marble busts.

    Piazza del Popolo
    End of the tour. One of Rome's great ceremonial gateways — the point where travellers arriving from the north entered the city for centuries. A fitting place to finish.
