The tour

Not every great day in Rome needs a plan, a queue, or a compromise. This is the classic route — the one that covers the monuments most people come to Rome to see — done properly, by private electric tuk-tuk, at a pace that actually lets you look. The route loops from Piazza del Popolo through the city and back again, taking in the Trevi Fountain, the Colosseum, the Circus Maximus, the Mouth of Truth, and the Pantheon — with stops along the way that are timed for photographs, not just drive-bys. The Giardino degli Aranci on the Aventine Hill, one of the quieter viewpoints in the city, gives you St. Peter's dome framed by orange trees. Largo Argentina, where Julius Caesar was assassinated and which is now inexplicably also home to Rome's most famous cat colony. The Vittoriano at Piazza Venezia, which divides Romans and impresses everyone else. Your driver navigates the restricted zones and narrow streets that coaches can't enter, getting you closer to each site than you'd manage any other way. No rushing, no headsets, no groups of thirty.     Piazza del Popolo
    Starting and finishing point of the tour. One of Rome's great ceremonial gateways — the point where travellers arriving from the north entered the city for centuries.

    Fontana di Trevi
    The largest baroque fountain in Rome, built where three ancient aqueducts once converged. Famously featured in Fellini's La Dolce Vita — the coin toss tradition has been going ever since.

    Piazza Venezia
    The geographical heart of Rome, dominated by the Vittoriano — the vast white marble monument built in 1885 that Romans love to argue about and visitors can't stop photographing.

    Colosseo
    Built in 72 AD and completed in just eight years, symbol of the Roman Empire, it held up to 80,000 spectators — the largest amphitheatre ever built, and still standing.

    Circo Massimo
    The ancient Roman chariot-racing stadium, built to hold 300,000 spectators — more than any sports venue on earth today. Now a long open field, but the scale of it still reads.

    Giardino degli Aranci
    A quiet hilltop garden on the Aventine, with one of the best-framed views in Rome — St. Peter's dome visible through the orange trees. One of those spots locals keep to themselves.

    Bocca della Verità
    A marble mask from the 1st century AD, originally a drain cover, now one of Rome's most visited curiosities — made globally famous by Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck in Roman Holiday.

    Largo Argentina
    A sunken archaeological site in the middle of the city, with four Republican-era temples dating back to the 4th century BC. Also the site of Caesar's assassination in 44 BC — and home to Rome's most famous cat colony.

    Pantheon
    The Pantheon is one of the most iconic monuments of Rome, an ancient Roman temple then transformed into a church, built by Marcus Vespasian Agrippa in 27 BC, and reconstructed, destroyed by a fire, by the emperor Hadrian between 118 and 128 A.D. Famous for its grandiose non-robbed concrete dome and the central Oculo.
